The Sofia Zoo is a zoo that covers an area of 36 hectares and is the oldest and largest zoo in the Balkans, founded in 1888. The zoo is home to around 2,500 animals from all over the world, representing more than 300 species. The zoo houses 81 species of mammals, 78 species of birds, 46 species of reptiles, 4 amphibian species, 1000 fish species and 3 species of invertebrates.
