Founded in 1893, the museum houses geology and archaeology of the Peak District, including the archives and collections of Sir William Boyd Dawkins and Dr J.W.Jackson. A busy programme of temporary exhibitions provides opportunities for contemporary artists and access to the museum's own fine art and photographic collections. Buxton Museum and Art Gallery features exhibits related to Archives, Photography, Social History, Fine Art, Decorative and Applied Art, Personalities, Law and Order, Natural Sciences and Archaeology.
