Founded in 1811, the Dulwich Picture Gallery was England's very first public gallery. The museum houses masterpieces by Rembrandt, Rubens, Watteau, Gainsborough, Van Dyck and many others. Besides these masterpieces, the collection consists of many more French, Italian and Spanish Baroque paintings and British portraits from Tudor times to the 19th century. The entire collection of the Dulwich Picture Gallery is a Designated Collection of national importance.
