Welcome to the restored historic home of Elizabeth Gaskell, the famous Victorian author of North and South, Cranford and Mary Barton. We invite you to explore the historic period rooms, Victorian-style garden, Tea Room and shop, where you’ll learn about the lives of the Gaskell Family, the restoration of the house and Elizabeth’s literary career. Take the opportunity to browse the books in William Gaskell’s study and sit where Elizabeth sat to write, overlooking her beloved garden. The majority of the furniture and objects can be touched and used, providing a rare hands-on experience.
