The Galata Museum (Galata - Museo del Mare) is the largest museum of its kind (that focuses on the Mediterranean) and is located at the Porto Antico in Genoa in the Palazzo Galata. In addition to the replica of a full-size Genoese galley, the museum features interactive exhibition spaces that illustrate life at sea. A large part of the exhibition is dedicated to maritime trade in the days of the Maritime Republic of Genoa, but there are also sections on overseas ships with nautical maps and a simulation of a storm at Cape Horn, Furthermore, the museum has the submarine Nazario Sauro (S 518) on display, which was decommissioned in 2002.
