Located on Via Ostiense in Rome, Centrale Montemartini is the newest exhibition space among the municipal museums of Rome. In front of an industrial-archaeological backdrop, it houses about 400 Roman statues as well as tomb inscriptions and mosaics. Set in the oldest power plant in Rome, the museum combines the historical artworks with the industrial machinery in the background. The largest part of the exhibits is based on relatively new acquisitions and comes from excavations that were carried out after the unification of Italy, especially in the ancient gardens of Rome.
