The Hacienda Nápoles estate was not just a residence, but a complex that included a Spanish colonial house, a sculpture park, and a complete zoo housing a variety of animals. Additionally, the estate boasted a large collection of vintage and luxury cars and bikes, a private airport, and even a Formula 1 racing track, reflecting the lavish lifestyle of its owner.
Following the death of Pablo Escobar, the Municipality of Puerto Triunfo took over the management of Hacienda Nápoles. The estate's zoo is home to a variety of animals including bison, a rare goat, an ostrich, and zebras. Interestingly, the hippos that Escobar once owned have escaped from the zoo and have become feral, inhabiting at least four lakes in the vicinity and spreading into nearby rivers.
In 2014, a private company rented the grounds of Hacienda Nápoles and established a 'Jurassic Park'-style African theme park. Named 'Parque Temático Hacienda Nápoles', the park features a water park, a guided safari attraction, aquariums, and a replica of the caves found in Colombia's Cueva de los Guácharos National Park.
Despite the transformation of Hacienda Nápoles into a theme park, remnants of its past remain. The Escobar museum, his burned private car collection, and the abandoned 'ruins' of his house are still publicly accessible. However, it is reported that these structures collapsed in February 2015.
