Exhibition 'Achterhoekers and Westmünsterlanders on the Move' in MuseumFabriek Winterswijk

Until August 28th of this year, a new exhibition titled "Achterhoekers and Westmünsterlanders on the Move" will be on display at the MuseumFabriek Winterswijk. The exhibition provides a glimpse into the 19th-century emigrants from our region to America. It explores the journey to the port cities, the often appalling conditions during the crossing, and the journey, sometimes lasting years, to their final destination. What was the living situation like for the aspiring emigrant, how did the church and school network develop, what contacts did they make, where did they all go, and what happened to those who stayed behind?
