Exhibition 'Bringing nature into your home' in TU Delft Hortus Botanicus
Chairs made of natural material
Trees, rushes, rattan tendrils and bamboo stems, they can be found in almost every home, although you sometimes need to look closely. How do they get the shape in which we take them home? Discover this in the summer exhibition at the TU Delft Hortus Botanicus. From January 2026, the Hortus Botanicus will collaborate more closely with the Faculty of Architecture. To celebrate this step, we are already creating a joint exhibition this summer, which combines chairs from the TU Delft Chair Collection with the plants from which they are made. In search of technical innovations, the Hortus Botanicus has been facilitating research into plants for more than 100 years. The Chair Collection was also set up to show smart steps in the technique of furniture making. In a world that is becoming increasingly aware of its ecological footprint, we show the beauty and functionality of chairs made from the treasures of nature. Come and see how the chair evolves, driven by makers and designers in their quest for comfort and beauty, efficiency and sustainability. And find the origin back in the garden, where nature provides the renewable raw materials of the past and future.
