Exhibition 'Colors of the Kuppenalb – Impressions: Landscape Painting by Florian Weiß' in Burgmuseum Parsberg
The special exhibition “Colors of the Kuppenalb – Impressions” presented landscape paintings by the Upper Palatinate artist Florian Weiß at Burgmuseum Parsberg from February 22 to March 23, 2025.
At the heart of the exhibition were landscapes of the Upper Palatinate Jura. Florian Weiß draws inspiration from real places, familiar paths, and distinctive landscapes, transforming them into an individual contemporary visual language. His works move between close observation and free painterly interpretation.
Many of the exhibited works are characterized by bold and vibrant colors. Shades of green, blue, ochre, red, and turquoise merge into dynamic compositions in which trees, fields, paths, and distinctive landforms remain recognizable while being transformed through painting. The real landscape always serves as the starting point for the composition.
Alongside color, pictorial structure plays a central role in Weiß’s work. Spatial depth, expressive brushwork, and a deliberate simplification of forms give his landscapes both tension and movement. Rather than providing a photographic representation of a place, the paintings convey a personal perception and experience of landscape.
Florian Weiß was born in Regensburg in 1973. After completing an internship at the Bamberg Cathedral Workshop, he studied architecture in Regensburg before continuing his education in Fine Arts at the University of Regensburg. There, he focused intensively on color, composition, artistic perception, and art history. In recognition of his academic achievements, he was nominated for a scholarship by the Max Reger Foundation.
Today, Florian Weiß lives and works as an independent landscape painter in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria. A central focus of his work is the landscape of his immediate surroundings and the Upper Palatinate Jura. His paintings combine a strong sense of place with a free, gestural, and color-intensive approach to painting.
Presented in the columned hall of Burgmuseum Parsberg, the exhibition not only explored the distinctive landscapes of the region but also offered a contemporary artistic reflection on landscape, memory, and perception.
