Exhibition 'In cemento veritas' Mario Loprete
On Saturday, November 15 (3:00 p.m.), the special exhibition ‘In cemento veritas’ (truth in cement) by Italian artist Mario Loprete opens in the (h)Art Gallery of the Brinkhuis. The exhibit is free to view until January 8, 2026.
About Mario Loprete
Mario Loprete graduated from the Accademia dei Belle Arti in Catanzaro, Italy. He writes: "Painting is my first love. An important, pure love. Creating a painting, starting with the spasmodic research of a concept with which I want to convey my message – that is the basis of painting for me. Beauty is my art. lover, an artistic betrayal of painting It is a voluptuous and sensual lover that evokes various emotions that touch forbidden strings.”
For my concrete sculptures, I use my personal clothes. Through my artistic process, using plaster, resin and cement, I transform these garments into works of art to hang. The intended effect is that my DNA and my memory remain in the concrete, so that the person looking at these sculptures transforms into a kind of postmodern archaeologist studying my works as urban artifacts.
I like to think that those who look at my sculptures, made in 2020, can perceive the fear, vulnerability and anxiety that any of us may have felt in the face of a planetary problem that was covid 19. Under a layer of cement are my clothes that I lived with during this dark period – clothes that survived covid 19, very similar to what survived after the 2000 year old catastrophic eruption of Pompeii, and that are able to describe the despair of the people who suffered witnessing broken lives and devastated economies.
