Exhibition 'Gainsborough in his own words' in Rijksmuseum Twenthe
Rijksmuseum Twenthe will present the work of this important British master in an experimental presentation that follows the artist’s own words, revealed in his letters. Gainsborough in his own words will be the first exhibition about Gainsborough in Holland.
The exhibition will show aspects of his oeuvre including landscapes, conversation pieces and portraits in which extra attention is paid to the portraits of his beloved family and friends and his enthusiasm for music. A total of around 25 paintings and 15 watercolours by the hand of Thomas Gainsborough will be on display, as well as a selection of his letters. Also including paintings by artists who were an inspiration to him, musical instruments, books and costumes, this exhibition will create an intimate view of the world of Thomas Gainsborough.
