Exhibition 'GROUND - Antony Gormley' in Museum Voorlinden

In the spring of 2021, Voorlinden will be presenting a major retrospective of Antony Gormley (1950). This British artist is praised worldwide for his art, which deals with the relationship between the human body and the space around us.

Antony Gormley uses his own body and that of others to ask fundamental questions about man’s relationship with nature and the cosmos. He approaches the age-old subject of the human body in art in his own unique, universal and philosophical way, building on the history of art and conceptual sculpture of the 1960s and 1970s.

For the first time, an exhibition covers two thirds of the museum. This makes it the largest solo show in Voorlinden since its opening. The exhibition shows a broad selection of Antony Gormley’s art: from his early work from the 1980s to his most recent sculptures. For example, the twelve-metre-long steel work Passage will be on display for the first time in the Netherlands, in which you travel through the dark unknown. The room-filling Breathing Room will also be shown, in which you imagine yourself in a three-dimensional drawing in space.

Voorlinden has a close relationship with Antony Gormley for years, who already made a sculpture for Clingenbosch sculpture garden in 1994. The exhibition shows a broad selection of early work from the eighties to his most recent sculptures.
