Exhibition 'Highlights from the collection' in Museum Panorama Mesdag
Hendrik Willem Mesdag and Sientje Mesdag-van Houten
Development of their artistic career
Museum Panorama Mesdag houses a special collection of works of art created by its namesakes Hendrik Willem Mesdag (1831–1915) and Sientje Mesdag-van Houten (1834–1909). Both of them only began to paint professionally later in life and they shared a strong interest in nature, which they studied in great detail. In this presentation the visitor learns more about the developments in the oeuvre of both artists. Multiple highlights from their artistic career are on show: from sketches and early drawings to masterpieces.
Extensive research
For the past year the museum has conducted an extensive research and conservation project concerning the collection of works on paper. During this research remarkable discoveries have been done and new insights have been acquired. In this collection presentation, never before shown works by Mesdag and Mesdag-van Houten, such as sketches and drawings, are presented for the first time.
