Exhibition 'Licking Thread, Hearing Everything' in Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen
A fortress: a hard concrete structure set up for military defense and control, usually surrounded by a much softer looking piece of nature.
Taking this fact as a starting point, Leonardiansyah Allenda and Serena Lee created a series of site-specific spatial installations for the Kunstfort,
playing with notions of force, resistance, tension and balance. Integrating sculptural, video and audio elements, Licking Thread, Hearing Everything puts the physical presence of the fort into dialogue with qualities of yinyang. These are essential to taijiquan, a martial arts form practiced as defense and as
maintenance for whole body health. The works carry traces of an artistic search for embodied knowledge and the question of how artistic
practices are shaped by familial histories of migration and diaspora.
