Exhibition 'London Underground Tube Train' in Epping Signalling Museum
The yellow locomotive you can see from the trains or the car park is the restored shunting locomotive L11 from Acton Works.
At the end of their service life in 1964 two former Piccadilly Line motor cars 3080 and 3109 were selected to form L11 for use as a shunting locomotive at London Underground's Acton Works. The passenger compartments were removed to leave just the 'working bits' these were then joined together in a classic ‘cut & shut’ to form one Locomotive.
Visitors are welcome to climb on board and sit at the controls of a genuine London Underground train, not forgetting to watch for the lineside signals and working set of points. All this whilst Central Line trains clatter past on the other line!
