Exhibition 'Maine State Aquarium' in Maine State Aquarium
We are a one-room facility, with approximately a dozed tanks ranging from 5 gallons to 1400. This includes a 300-gallon Touch Tank and a 150-gallon shark tank. We have a simulation of the Boothbay working waterfront, including the aft end of a lobster boat for kids to learn how to catch and band lobsters. Our Research Spotlight area has several interactive exhibits, including microscopes and a Touch Table that highlights the research of the Department of Marine Resources (of which the Aquarium is part). Overhead is the skeleton of a 26-ft minke whale and 2 harbor porpoise. Each hour Aquarium Aides provide a live lobster talk. Our adjacent Learning Lab features the Sharks of Maine Exhibit, with a 150-gallon chain catshark tank. Families can create a scientific art project in the space as well.
