Exhibition 'New lines | Between friendship and association' in Villa Mondriaan
The summer of 2025 in Villa Mondriaan is all about the ‘line’. The main exhibition focuses on the work of Michel Seuphor, a good friend of Piet Mondriaan’s and a master of abstraction and geometry. The influences of Mondriaan's practices are clearly visible in Seuphor's work. This is reinforced by their joint membership of the artists' association 'Cercle et Carré'. While it was once customary for artists to join an association, this does not seem to be the case today. Nine contemporary artists reflect on the themes of friendship and association with their participation in the exhibition 'New Lines'. At the invitation of curator Marian Genet, her spatial installations are brought together with the playful objects of Christina de Korte, Iekeliene Stange, Dirry de Bruin, Lisette van Hoogenhuyze, Judith Pool, Carmen Schabracq, Joana Schneider and Hadassah Emmerich. The works invite you to take a seat, climb on them, and experience art in a completely different way. 'New Lines' provides insight into how female artists can strengthen their position in the art sector by forming an association or establishing a collective.
This exhibition is made possible in part by Gemeente Winterswijk, Provincie Gelderland, Stichting Voor Vrouwen Door Vrouwen, and Mondriaan Fonds.
