The British Army’s Longest Continuous Deployment

From August 1969 to July 2007, the British Army was deployed in Northern Ireland to support the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) during The Troubles—a period marked by civil rights protests, sectarian violence, and growing paramilitary activity.

Many in the Catholic community distrusted the RUC and initially viewed the Army as a neutral force. That trust quickly eroded as violence escalated and operations intensified.

This exhibition explores the history of this conflict and the role of the Staffordshire Regiment.
