Exhibition 'Paintings from Fredrik Weijs' in Rijssens Museum
Painter and illustrator Frederik J. Weijs (1951) was born in Sint Jansklooster. His father was a carpenter, as was the tradition in the family. His mother came from an old family of skippers who earned their living in coastal and inland shipping. In 1961 the family moved to Zwartsluis where he still lives and works.
As a child he was already very interested in drawing and painting. After secondary school he decided to become a painter. After teaching as a drawing teacher for six years he devoted himself entirely to his painting, giving drawing and painting courses in the winter months for 25 years.
He also made four books: “Traces of a Craft”.
Some of the illustrations are on permanent display in the Schoonewelle Centrum Natuur & Ambacht Museum in Zwartsluis.
He has had his own gallery in his hometown for several years now.
His oeuvre mainly includes landscapes and maritime subjects.
More information can be found on the website of Frederik Weijs
The paintings can be seen in Museumgalerie de Oosterhof from 25 March to 10 May 2025 and are also for sale.
