Exhibition 'Portraits Of My Demons' in Kunstlinie

Jij bent M. and Carte Blanche present Portraits Of My Demons, a solo exhibition by artist Gurb (Yoeri Teuben, 2000)

In this exhibition, Gurb gives shape to his inner demons, not as classical monsters, but as characters inspired by Japanese manga culture. In this world, demons are not seen purely as evil but can also act as guides, companions, or mirrors. Gurb invites us to see fear not as a threat, but as an integral part of everyday life.

His work raises a question: what does it mean to live a life in which your demons don’t disappear, but become part of your story? Rather than offering clear answers, the exhibition opens a space for reflection.

As a mixed-media artist, Gurb combines collage, painting, soundscapes, and animation to create a layered universe that feels both familiar and unsettling. Illustration and sound merge into imagery that doesn’t explain, but evokes leaving room for personal interpretation.
The exhibition unfolds across three rooms, each representing a distinct mental state. Visitors move from confrontation to stillness, drawing closer to the artist’s inner world and perhaps to their own.

Portraits Of My Demons marks Gurb’s first solo exhibition: a deeply personal milestone and a timely reflection on mental health.

Note: A ticket for Portraits Of My Demons also grants access to the exhibition Almere Collection: From Depot to Studio.
