Exhibition 'Uitgelicht - A night at the museum' in Dutch Open Air Museum
From 9 to 25 October 2026, experience the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum after dark during ‘Uitgelicht’: a unique evening walk through the museum park. Let yourself be swept away by impressive light projections and historic locations, and immerse yourself in the extraordinary life story of Dr Christine Bader, a remarkable woman who was far ahead of her time.
A child’s life
Over a hundred years ago, childhood looked very different from today. Many children had to help out at home, work in factories or on farms from a very young age. There was little time for play, and illness was common. Around 1900, good healthcare was far from a given. Yet slowly, things began to change.
The story of Christine Bader
As one of the first female doctors in the Netherlands, Dr Christine Bader was a pioneer in childcare and healthcare. With her new ideas about health, nutrition and raising children, she fought for better care and more opportunities for children. Her work helped bring about changes that improved the lives of generations to come.
During ‘Uitgelicht’, you’ll follow her remarkable life story: from a young doctor with big ideals to her work with children during times of crisis and war.
A surprising walk through the museum park
During this approximately 2-kilometre walk, you’ll pass unique gardens and historic buildings. The museum park comes to life with more than twenty light projections, sound effects, and illuminated buildings and paths. The walk takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
The route follows wide, paved paths and is accessible to visitors using wheelchairs.
