Exhibition 'Verenigd Soesterkwartier: een eeuw verenigingsleven in de volksbuurt' in Wijkmuseum Soesterkwartier

From February 8 to June 22, 2025, the exhibition 'Verenigd Soesterkwartier: een eeuw verenigingsleven in de volksbuurt' can be seen in the Wijkmuseum Soesterkwartier. The Soesterkwartier, a working-class neighborhood par excellence, has had a flourishing social life for more than 100 years. From 1924 onwards, young and old unite to make music, play theater, play sports, work in the garden or celebrate. The mother of club life in the neighborhood is Playground Association Soesterkwartier, which was founded in 1924 as Nutspeeltuin Soesterkwartier by concerned citizens and which housed a large number of other associations: singing, music, theater, gymnastics. After this, dozens of other associations were founded, many of which still exist.

The exhibition focuses on the active club life in the working-class neighborhood in four themes: Sports and Games, Animals and Gardens, Music and Fun and Playgrounds. The exhibition features special historical and contemporary photos and objects, largely made available by the associations themselves. A project by, for and by the associations together with the Wijkmuseum Soesterkwartier.
