Exhibition 'Walther Vanbeselaere - Collector for the state, 1948-1973' in Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens
Within the series “private collections and exhibitions”, MDD presents in 2017 the modern art collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) which was put together by chief curator Walther Vanbeselaere between 1948 and 1973. His ideas on modern Flemish art were highly influential and determined fundamentally the writing of art history in Belgium throughout the 20th century. Vanbeselaere also had a very big impact on the collection Dhondt-Dhaenens. Consequently, many parallels can be drawn between the two collections. This exhibition is organized in cooperation with the KMSKA and will show amonst others work of Henri De Braekeleer, James Ensor, Rik Wouters, Jakob Smits, Constant Permeke, Gust De Smet and Jean Brusselmans.
