The Acadian House Museum, located in West Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia, Canada, is a unique blend of a living and interpretive museum. It was officially opened to the public in 1997, offering visitors a chance to experience and learn about the rich history and culture of the region.
The Acadian House Museum comprises five buildings, two of which are original to the site. One of these, known as the Bellefontaine house, is believed to have been constructed in 1850 by Joseph Bellefontaine. This offers visitors a glimpse into the architectural style and living conditions of the mid-19th century.
Three buildings at the Acadian House Museum site are dedicated to tours. The 'Gallery House' introduces guests to the history of Chezzetcook and also serves as the gift shop. 'La Musée' (The Museum) is adorned with period-accurate artifacts on the first floor, while the second floor is not accessible to the public. 'La Cabano' (The Shed) houses artifacts related to agricultural activities, fishing, livestock raising, and various tools, providing a comprehensive view of the region's historical lifestyle.
