The Air Museum, a part of the Portuguese Air Force, is located at Air Base No. 1 in Sintra, with two additional locations at Maneuver Aerodrome No. 1 in Ovar and the Alverca Military Complex in Alverca do Ribatejo. These locations offer visitors a chance to explore the rich history and development of aeronautical materials and technology in Portugal.
Permanent Exhibition at the Air Museum
The Air Museum's permanent exhibition showcases a wide range of aviation-related items, including airplanes, propellers, instrument panels, and navigation equipment. This collection provides a comprehensive representation of the historical evolution of aviation. Notable exhibits include the famous British fighter Spitfire, the Tiger Moth training biplane, and the Widgeon, a twin-engine amphibian aircraft.
International Recognition of the Air Museum
The Air Museum is internationally recognized as one of the top twenty aviation museums in the world. This acclaim is due to its extensive collection of nearly 10,000 pieces, which are distributed across its main location and two additional sites: Granja do Marquês - Pêro Pinheiro in Sintra (Air Base No. 1), and Alverca and Ovar (Maneuver Aerodrome No. 1).
