Aksaray Museum and its collection

Aksaray Museum
Source

The Aksaray Museum, originally established in the historic Zinciriye Madrasa in 1969, was relocated to a new building in 2004. This move was necessitated by the increasing number of artifacts collected from the archaeological excavations at Acemhöyük, Aşıklı Höyük, Musular, and Güvercinkayası Höyük. The new location provides ample space to display these valuable pieces of history.

Artifacts Displayed at Aksaray Museum

The Aksaray Museum houses a wide range of artifacts spanning from the Neolithic period to the Ottoman era. These include stone tools, obsidian weapons, bone tools, and ceramics. Each artifact provides a glimpse into the lives and cultures of the people who lived in this region throughout history.

Special Sections of Aksaray Museum

The Aksaray Museum features a Coin Section, which houses 8,387 coins from the Greek, Roman, Eastern Roman, and Islamic periods. Additionally, the museum's Ethnographic Artifacts Section contains 584 items, including various types of clothing, decorative items, carpets, socks, money bags, swords, and weapons. These sections provide a fascinating insight into the economic and social aspects of the region's past.
