The Altmärkisches Museum is a local history museum located in Stendal, Saxony-Anhalt. It is named after the Altmark region, and its exhibits present the history of this region. The museum is housed in the buildings of the former St. Catherine's Monastery.
Romanesque and Gothic Sacred Exhibits
The Altmärkisches Museum showcases a variety of Romanesque and Gothic sacred exhibits. One of the notable exhibits is the Johannes Altar of the Clothmakers' Guild from 1530. This altar is a significant piece of religious art from the period.
Exhibition on the Old Hanseatic City of Stendal
The museum features an exhibition titled "The old Hanseatic city of Stendal - City of Brick Gothic". This exhibition begins with the mention of the village of Steinedal in 1022 and introduces visitors to Altmark personalities and the garrison history. It is also dedicated to the beginning of the city's industrialization.
