The Archaeological Museum of La Serena is a centrally located museum in the city of La Serena, which is the capital of the Coquimbo Region. The museum was established on April 3, 1943, making it a longstanding institution in the city.
The museum is home to valuable archaeological collections from the Atacama and Coquimbo cultures, specifically the Molles and Diaguitas. Additionally, it houses a monumental moai, a large stone figure, from the Rapa Nui culture in a room dedicated to Easter Island.
In addition to its archaeological collections, the museum also features an anthropological and historical library. This library preserves a range of materials, from ancient colonial manuscripts to newspapers from the early 20th century that were edited in the area.
