The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is a part of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Located in the River Oaks community, this 14-acre facility is home to a vast collection of decorative art, paintings, and furniture. This unique museum offers a blend of art and nature, providing a unique experience for its visitors.
The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is not just about the art collection inside the museum. The 14-acre area along Buffalo Bayou includes eight formal gardens, each with its unique charm. Three of these gardens are named after the statues of goddesses or muses displayed in them - Clio, Diana, and Euturpe. The other gardens are named White, East, Butterfly, and Carla, each offering a different experience for visitors.
The Bayou Bend Collection is a treasure of American decorative arts. It consists of approximately 4,700 objects that reflect historic and stylistic periods from 1620 to 1870. These objects are installed in 28 period room settings, providing a comprehensive view of American decorative arts from the 17th to the 19th century.
