The Tannenberg mine, located south of Tannenbergsthal in the district of Schneckenstein, is a former tin mine in the Saxon Vogtland. Today, it serves as a visitor mine, offering tourists a unique opportunity to explore the history and workings of a traditional tin mine.
Mining in the area around Gottesberg and Schneckenstein, where the Tannenberg mine is located, experienced significant fluctuations. The operating periods of the mines often lasted only a few years, reflecting the challenging nature of mining operations and the economic conditions of the time.
In 1935, the Deposit Research Office of the Oberbergamt Freiberg began its work in the Tannenberg area. One of their tasks was to examine the greisen masses of the large Tannenberg pinge at Winselburg. This research contributed to the understanding of the geological composition of the area and the potential for tin extraction.
