The Brick School House, located in Coventry, Connecticut, is a unique local history museum. This small brick building served as a one-room school from 1825 to 1953, making it a significant piece of the state's educational history. It is the only one-room schoolhouse in Connecticut that is open to the public, offering a glimpse into the past.
The Brick School House is not only a museum but also a repository of local history, owned and managed by the Coventry Historical Society. The interior of the schoolhouse is filled with nineteenth-century school desks and displays of photographs and other memorabilia. These items, donated by former pupils and teachers, provide a tangible connection to the past.
The Brick School House welcomes visitors on the first and third Sundays of the month, from May through October. Admission to the museum, including tours, is free of charge. This provides an affordable and educational outing for individuals and families alike.
