Brunshausen Monastery, situated in Brunshausen, a district of Bad Gandersheim, in Lower Saxony and the diocese of Hildesheim, is a former Benedictine abbey. This historical site was once chosen by the Ottonians as a seat of power due to its central location within their dominion and its strategic position on the army route connecting Mainz to Fulda, Northeim, and Hildesheim via the North Sea.
In 1989, the monastery was transformed into a cultural center. Since May 2007, it has been home to the second part of the museum project 'Portal zur Geschichte'. This project tells the history of the monastery through the biographies of significant women associated with the place, offering visitors a unique perspective on the monastery's past.
The monastery features a Gothic church with Romanesque remains that date back to the 14th and 15th centuries. These architectural elements provide a visual representation of the historical periods the monastery has passed through, making it a fascinating site for those interested in architecture and history.
