The Cantor Art Center is located on the very spacious campus of Stanford University. Recently,I spent over four hours enjoying its art collection.I appreciated its very extensive collection of Rodin Sculptures such as;"Gates of Hell","3 Shades",,"Torso of Fallen Man","Claude Lorrain",and "Prayer",among so many others. However, this review emphasizes its somewhat sketchy collection of European Paintings.Nevertheless,I was captivated by the following paintings;Circle of Agnolo Gaddi's"Madonna and Child With Saints and Angels"(Italian Medieval,Trecento,a good example of Medieval Italian Paintings),Jacopo Sellaio's"Madonna and Christ Child with Saint John The Baptist"(Italian Renaissance, fine paradigm of Renaissance Italian Painting),Antwerp Mannerist's"Adoration of Magi"(Netherlandish Renaissance),Jan Baegert's"Saint Catherine and Saint Bar bara"(German Renaissance),Carlos Dolci's"Madonna in Glory"(Italian Baroque, quality Tenebrism),Claude Vignon's"Lamentation of Saint Peter"(French Baroque, quality Tenebrism),Nicolas Regnier's"Saint Sebastian Tended To By Irene"(French Baroque,Tenebrism),Cornelis Van Dalem("Landscape With Adam and Eve"(Dutch Master),Jan Vander Heyden"s"Houses on Canal"(marvelous reflections),Jacob Jordaens'"Head of Apostle"(Flemish Baroque"),Pietro Longhi's"The Painter"(Italian 18th Century),Francois Andre Vincent's"Zeuxis Choosing His Model For Image of Helen"(18th Century,French),William Geets'"Accident"(Belgian 19th Century),and Andre Derain's"Stillife with Fruit",an atypical Derain Painting),among others. This is a free art museum with fine curatorial work.It has a broad range of Art.
