The Captain Avery Museum, located in Shady Side, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States, is a historic home and museum. This two-story frame building is situated on a 0.75-acre rectangular lot, offering views of the West River and Chesapeake Bay. The museum was originally the residence of Capt. Salem Avery, a Chesapeake Bay waterman, and was constructed around 1860.
The Captain Avery Museum property includes the main house, which has been expanded over the years, three sheds that were previously used as bath houses, and a modern boathouse built in 1993. The boathouse showcases the Edna Florence, a locally-built 1937 Chesapeake Bay deadrise workboat, adding to the historical significance of the museum.
