Built onto the 1901 Knox Presbyterian Church, The Carstairs Heritage Centre was established in 1986 to collect, preserve, record, and interpret objects and materials relevant to Carstairs and District. The museum boasts a diverse collection of displays spanning 10 galleries which contextualises the town of Carstairs within the history of Alberta. The Carstairs Heritage Centre operates year-round and provides a series of engaging programs including scavenger hunts, concerts as well as various speaker events. The Museum’s summer attractions include ‘calf’ roping, Acme Star Lilly the milking cow and the 1901 McCaig House. In addition to heritage-based programming the Carstairs Heritage Centre Hosts the Pointon Art Gallery which features artists from across central Alberta. Moreover, we operate a visitor information centre with public washrooms and free Wi-Fi. We work hard annually to update and change displays to make sure that repeat visitors have a chance to see something new. The museum is fully wheelchair accessible.
