Paul is a quaint Portuguese parish located in the municipality of Covilhã, within the district of Castelo Branco. It covers an area of 35.61 km² and as of 2011, it had a population of 1,624 inhabitants. This charming parish is nestled in the southern slopes of the Serra da Estrela, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage.
One of the highlights of Paul's historical and artistic heritage is the baroque Mother Church. The interior of the church is adorned with a wooden coating covered with an Italian-style painting that represents Our Lady of the Annunciation, the patroness of the church. This beautiful piece of art adds a unique touch to the church and is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the area.
Paul is also known for its unique architecture. The houses in the area are built using local materials such as pebbles, granite, slate, red clay, and pine or chestnut wood, along with Portuguese tile. An interesting feature of these houses is that many do not have chimneys. Instead, the smoke from the fire is allowed to escape directly through the roof, a method traditionally used to dry sausages.
