Chase Ranch and its collection

Following the death of Gretchen Sammis, the great-granddaughter of Manly and Theresa Chase, ownership of the ranch was transferred to the Chase Ranch Foundation. Gretchen had established this foundation with the aim of preserving the 11,000-acre ranch and the heritage of her family. This change in ownership ensures the continued preservation of the ranch's historical and cultural significance.

The Agreement with the Boy Scouts of America

On October 21, 2013, the Chase Ranch Foundation and the Boy Scouts of America entered into an agreement. This agreement allows Philmont Scout Ranch to maintain the operation of the ranch, preserve its historic structures, manage a museum, and create and run educational programs. These programs include living history presentations of New Mexico and American Southwest history. Additionally, the agreement allows for the operation of a working cattle ranch with Herefords, Gretchen's favorite breed.
