Church of Saint Roch and its collection

Church of Saint Roch

The Church of Saint Roch is one of the earliest Jesuit churches in the world. Even though the exterior of this church is quite simple, its interior is elaborately decorated - it is a fusion of Mannerist and Baroque styles. The Church of Saint Roch boasts eight splendid chapels and three altars. One of the highlights of this church is its painted ceiling with a display of scenes of the Apocalypse. Religious collections can be found in the São Roque museum, adjacent to the church. It also houses 16th-century Portuguese paintings and two exquisite torch holders.
