Collezione Maramotti and its collection

La Collezione Maramotti is a private contemporary art collection that was opened to the public in 2007. It is situated in the historic headquarters of the Max Mara company in Reggio Emilia. The collection was established by the brand's founder, Achille Maramotti, who had a deep passion for art.

The Collection

The collection at La Collezione Maramotti consists of over two hundred works that are on permanent display. These works represent some of the main artistic trends both in Italy and internationally that have emerged in the second half of the 20th century.

Archive and Art Library

In addition to the art pieces, the collection also includes an Archive and an Art Library. These contain over ten thousand items, including artist's books, monographs, essays, and catalogs. The documents are related to the historical funds of the collector, Achille Maramotti, and of Mario Diacono, a scholar, gallery owner, and art critic, who had a close intellectual relationship with Maramotti for over thirty years.

The Collezione Maramotti in Reggio nell'Emilia, Italy, is a contemporary art museum that offers visitors a thoughtful and engaging experience. Housed in a former textile factory, the museum's industrial architecture provides a striking backdrop for its impressive collection of post-World War II art.

The collection focuses primarily on Italian and international paintings from the 1950s to the present day, featuring works by both established and emerging artists. Visitors appreciate the well-curated exhibitions and the opportunity to see important pieces of contemporary art in an intimate setting.

Many reviewers highlight the museum's commitment to showcasing new talent through its "Max Mara Art Prize for Women" and other initiatives. The rotating exhibitions ensure that there's always something new to discover, even for repeat visitors.

The museum's layout allows for a self-guided tour, with informative plaques providing context for each artwork. Some visitors note that while this approach offers flexibility, it may leave those seeking more in-depth explanations wanting additional information.

One aspect that sets Collezione Maramotti apart is its free admission policy, which many visitors find refreshing and accessible. However, it's worth noting that the museum has limited opening hours, which some find inconvenient.

The staff is generally described as helpful and knowledgeable, contributing to a positive visitor experience. The museum also houses a small bookshop with a selection of art-related publications.

While the Collezione Maramotti may not be as extensive as some larger, more famous museums, it offers a high-quality, focused look at contemporary art in a unique setting. Its manageable size allows for a thorough visit without feeling overwhelming, making it a worthwhile stop for art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
