The Colonial Family Museum in Blumenau is a unique space that combines art, history, and memorial elements. It was established with the help of objects donated by Edith Gaertner, a former actress and the heiress of Hermann Bruno Otto Blumenau, a German pharmacist. This connection to a prominent local figure adds a personal touch to the museum's collection and provides a deeper understanding of the city's history.
The Colonial Family Museum's main objective is to showcase items and utensils that were common in the households of middle-class families during the early years of German colonization in Brazil. This focus allows visitors to gain a unique insight into the daily lives and cultural practices of these early settlers.
In addition to the main museum, the complex also includes a house built in 1858 by German immigrant Hermann Wendeburg. This house, which was added to the heritage of the Cultural Foundation of Blumenau in 1997, provides an authentic glimpse into the living conditions of the early German settlers in the region.
