The San Francesco museum complex is situated in the eponymous convent that has been a part of Trevi since the 13th century. The complex, which was abandoned following the Napoleonic suppressions, has been put to various uses over the years. However, since 1997, after undergoing restoration and adaptation, it has been home to the Civic Museum. This museum comprises an antiquarium, an art gallery, the Church of San Francesco, and the Museum of Olive Civilization.
The convent is structured around a central cloister, which features a portico with octagonal base pillars and an upper loggia. The fresco decoration of the lunettes, which depict Stories from the life of San Francesco, was executed by Bernardino Gagliardi during his stay in Trevi in 1645.
Since 1997, the museum has been situated on the ground floor of the San Francesco convent. It is entirely dedicated to Trevi's principal product, extra virgin olive oil DOP. The museum documents various aspects related to the production of oil and the culture of the olive tree, which is a significant characteristic of the landscape of the surrounding hills.
