Source

The Coopersville Station, which was originally built as the Grand Rapids, Grand Haven and Muskegon Railway Depot, is a historic railway station that was once used by the Grand Rapids, Grand Haven and Muskegon Railway. Today, the Coopersville Area Historical Society and Museum is housed in this station, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich history of the area.

Transformation into a Museum

In 1987, the Coopersville Area Historical Society acquired the use of the building and opened it as a museum. Renovations were made to the building, which were completed in 1991, enhancing its appeal and functionality as a museum.

Architectural Significance

The Grand Rapids, Grand Haven & Muskegon Railway depot in Coopersville is a single-story red brick building with an attached tower and a red clay tile roof. The building served dual purposes, functioning both as a passenger waiting room and as an electrical substation where AC power was converted to DC to power the train cars. This unique feature adds to the historical significance of the building.
