Mechanical masterpieces, hands-on industrial history, and the fascination of an almost forgotten craft: At the new Sewing Machine Museum in 26897 Esterwegen, Kurze Strasse 11. Founder and collector Peter Holzhüter has spent years passionately gathering historical treasures and bringing the history of sewing back to life. In the lovingly designed exhibition, visitors can now admire over 80 historical exhibits. The oldest pieces date back to 1890—a time when the invention of the sewing machine revolutionized people’s daily lives. From richly decorated showpieces from the turn of the century to the indestructible cast-iron classics of the retro era from the 1950s to the 1980s, and from Singer and Pfaff to rare specialty machines, the museum showcases the entire spectrum of the history of technology. All rooms are open to the public. You’ll gain insights into the entire scope of the museum’s activities, divided into 3 sections across 4 different rooms.
