The Fischer- und Webermuseum Steinhude, also known as Steinhuder Museen. Fischer- und Webermuseum | Spielzeugmuseum, is a museum located in Steinhude, a district of Wunstorf in the Hanover region of Lower Saxony. The museum offers a unique insight into the lives of fishermen and weavers, with a particular emphasis on the regional peculiarities of the Steinhuder Meer. Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits that depict the everyday life and work of these traditional professions.
The Fischer- und Webermuseum Steinhude was inaugurated on May 7, 1989 by the Förderverein Fischer- und Webermuseum Steinhuder Meer e.V. The museum is housed in a half-timbered house that was built in 1850 and was inhabited until 1984. The owners had hardly made any changes over the decades, which allowed the museum to retain the original furniture from the past 100 years. This gives visitors a unique opportunity to experience the authentic atmosphere of the past.
Since its merger with the Spielzeugmuseum Steinhude in May 2012, the Fischer- und Webermuseum Steinhude has expanded its collection to include toys. The museum provides an insight into the mixed income from fishing and weaving, which was a typical way of life in Steinhude. Visitors can get a glimpse of the life of a fishing family, adding another layer of understanding to the historical and cultural context of the region.
