Fishbourne Roman Palace & Gardens Reviews

Fishbourne Roman Palace & Gardens has 2 ratings.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

Fishbourne Roman Palace & Gardens offers visitors a glimpse into Roman Britain through its well-preserved archaeological remains. The site features the ruins of a large Roman villa, believed to be one of the largest Roman residences north of the Alps. Visitors can explore the extensive mosaic floors, which are a highlight of the site. The gardens have been reconstructed to reflect the original Roman design, providing an insight into ancient horticultural practices. The museum houses a collection of artifacts found during excavations, helping to contextualize the site's history. While many visitors find the mosaics impressive, some note that the site may feel small compared to other Roman ruins. The educational value is generally praised, with informative displays and guided tours available. However, some visitors mention that more interactive elements could enhance the experience, especially for younger audiences. The site's accessibility and facilities receive mixed reviews, with some finding them adequate and others suggesting room for improvement. Overall, Fishbourne Roman Palace & Gardens offers an educational experience for those interested in Roman history, though the appeal may vary depending on individual expectations.

Very disappointed with the excessive number of schools on site. Over heard several other visitors saying they could not hear at the information listening points as the children in the school groups were shouting and rushing around . I was visiting with two young grandchildren who are both very lively boys 11 and 7 years. They asked to leave after a very quick visit despite being very interested. As a teacher myself I was quite shocked by the noise level. I presume it was supposed to be an educational visit. The site is much too small for that number of large groups. I counted 6 coaches!
