The Flores Ethnographic Museum, located in the village of Santa Cruz das Flores, is a public institution that was established in 1977. It is dedicated to museology and cultural promotion, offering a rich collection of ethnographic and underwater archaeological artifacts.
Since 1993, the museum's collections of ethnography and underwater archaeology have been housed in the Convent of São Boaventura. This provides a unique setting for the display of these fascinating collections.
In 1979, the Regional Government of the Azores purchased the Pimentel Mesquita House, located in the center of Santa Cruz. In 1985, an exhibition of spinning and weaving was installed in the house, and the interior of a typical wealthy house of Flores was recreated. The rooms are furnished with furniture dating from the 18th to the early 20th century. Today, the house is home to the Municipal Library.
