The Francesco Minà Palumbo Naturalistic Museum is a tribute to the life and work of Francesco Minà Palumbo, a naturalist doctor from Castelbuono. The museum showcases the collections created by Palumbo during his extensive studies of the Madonie region between 1837 and 1899.
Francesco Minà Palumbo's research was comprehensive, covering almost all fields of natural sciences. This included botany, zoology, geology, paleontology, archeology, and anthropology. His work provides a broad understanding of the natural world, which is reflected in the museum's diverse collections.
The museum's collections are diverse and extensive, reflecting the breadth of Palumbo's research. They include endemic fossils of the Madonie territory, entomological collections, a collection of terrestrial and freshwater mollusks of the Madonie, a herbarium with about 7,000 exsiccata, current marine mollusks, collections of rocks and minerals with a section containing sulphurs and gypsums of the Sicilian sulphurous gypsum series, and finally prehistoric and industrial archeology artifacts up to the nineteenth century.
