Fur Museum and its collection

The Fur Museum, located in Nederby on the island of Fur in the Limfjord, is a natural history museum that houses and displays an extensive collection of early Eocene fossils. These fossils are from the Fur Formation, a layer of earth commonly referred to as moleret, and the underlying Stolleklint Clay on Fur. This collection provides a unique insight into the geological history of the region.

Exploring the Landscapes and Underground of the Region

In addition to its fossil collection, the Fur Museum also provides information about the region's landscapes and underground. The museum's narrative spans from the tropical moler sea to the arctic cold of the ice ages, a period during which large ice masses shaped Denmark. The museum offers a range of activities, including nature walks, lectures, and nature workshops, to help visitors experience these fascinating landscapes.

The Geopark: A Journey Through Geological Time

Behind the Fur Museum building, visitors can find a stone park, commonly referred to as the Geopark. The park is designed in such a way that the path forms a timeline, stretching from historical times to 1.4 billion years back in geological time. The park features many large stones, each representing a different geological period, and also houses several historical animal models, adding an extra dimension to the visitor experience.
