The Galleria Civica di Trento, located at Via Rodolfo Belenzani, 44 in Trento, is a museum dedicated to contemporary art. Established in 1989, it became a part of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto in 2013. This integration has allowed the gallery to expand its reach and influence in the art world.
The Galleria Civica di Trento has a rich history of hosting exhibitions featuring the works of renowned artists. Some of the notable artists whose works have been displayed here include Enzo Cucchi, Tony Cragg, Mario Merz, Yōko Ono, Giuseppe Penone, Alex Katz, Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Philip Taaffe, Cai Guo-Qiang, and Katarzyna Kozyra. These exhibitions have contributed to the gallery's reputation as a significant venue for contemporary art.
In 2012, the Galleria Civica di Trento faced a temporary closure due to lack of funds. However, it decided to merge with the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, which led to its reopening in 2013. The gallery's structure was renovated by Stefano Grigoletto, a young architect from Trentino, adding a fresh and modern touch to the venue.
